The Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) has decided to suspend its trade union action and report to work from Friday (October 12).

FUTA Secretary did not participate at the joint media conference with the government scheduled earlier today (October 11).

A joint media briefing with the participation of government Ministers and the President of the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) was to be held today (October 11) at the Ministry of Economic Development, the Government Information Department stated.

The press conference was announced by Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake in parliament yesterday while he along with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was to attend the briefing.

The media briefing was scheduled to be held at 2pm today at the Ministry.

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa addressing the press conference in Colombo stated that during the meeting on October 9 FUTA officials agreed to call off the strike action.
