Delivering a statement for the first time in Parliament today, DNA parliamentarian Tiran Alles inquired as to what UNP leader Ranil Wickarasinghe has achieved for the country or the opposition in his 16 years in the opposition since 1994.
He made these comments during the Committee Stage debate on the 2013 Budget in Parliament today, responding to a recent statement by the Opposition Leader where he had claimed that Mr Alles has created a world record by refraining from speaking in Parliament for two years and that he deserved an award for that.
The DNA National List MP declared that it was not him who has set a Guinness record by remaining silent and that it is Mr Wickramasinghe who has set a record for the most number of election lost.
Tiran Alles further stated that a higher expenditure has been allocated in the budget for the Opposition Leader and pointed out that this is the tax money of the public.
In responding to this, Ranil Wickramasinghe assured that he has done the utmost for the opposition in his capacity as the Leader of the opposition. He also pointed out that he made a parliamentarian, who had remained silent in parliament for the past 3 years, speak today.
