The United National Party today said that the government is continuing to disregard the various problems and grievances of the masses and only taking actions after it is too late, terming it as similar to “closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.”

Hiding behind “commissions”, as per usual, the government has escaped from the issue following the deaths of 3 persons including two students and injuring over 60 persons in Rathupaswala, Weliweriya, UNP Spokesman Gayantha Karunathileka said.

Now the government is saying that such factories should be opened within BOI zones, he said, referring to the President’s decision yesterday to relocate the Dipped Products factory at the center of the polluted water controversy in Weliweriya.

He accused the government of not even attempting to hint that it is acting with transparency regarding the issue or to show that they are investigating it. Justice has still not been done over the incident, he said.

The UNP MP questioned whether the government has found any evidence to back the “lies” it had created to cover up the true intensions of the people of Rathupaswala and if  they have identified the members of the so called “5th party” involved in the clashes.
