The government supplied Channel
4 journalists with the information they needed to create another film on Sri
Lanka, UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella stated.
Speaking at a press
conference held today (November 20) in Colombo, he said that after granting the
Channel 4 team visas to enter the country, the government then restricted them.
The MP stated that the
government was making promises to the international community similar to the
manner in which it makes promises to the public.
He added that Sri Lanka
had not benefitted at all through the recently concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government
Meeting (CHOGM) while claiming that this year’s CHOGM had the lowest
heads of state turnout ever.
Kiriella highlighted that
members of the government had opposed the decision to hold CHOGM in Sri Lanka
and stated that the government had allegedly spent Rs.15 billion.
He also criticised the government
for being inconsistent with its view on the international community.
