An
anti-government sentiment is building up within the public due to the
anti-people policies employed by the government, UNP Spokesman MP Gayantha
Karunathilaka stated.
He said that even though government Ministers and MPs do not have the back bone to go against the government, a few Pradeshiya Sabha politicians have shown that they aren’t afraid to do so.
Speaking about the recently delivered budget for 2014, he said that this has become another reason for the public to be disillusioned with the government while the people have now realised that the budget is nothing but a piece of paper.
He also claimed that the government was more interested in providing relief to dogs than to the people.
The MP stressed that the government was employing a guerrilla economic policy in which it finds money by taxing and gambling.
In a country in which the majority struggles to travel to and from work while providing a life for their families, the government stages events like night races, he explained.
Karunathilaka said that the public has realised that this government, which has tricked the people by telling fairy tales, cannot continue in this manner for long.
The UNP MP went on to speak about the UNP Leadership Council meeting which was held last evening (December 10) during which it had decided upon four recommendations to be presented at the UNP General Assembly on December 21.
The recommendations include approving the mandate of the Leadership Council and delegating powers, engaging in a campaign against the executive Presidency, forcing the government to help ease the burden of the cost of living and ensuring that all those in the UNP work with one accord.
