High Court revokes Magistrate’s order on Thilina Gamage

June 13, 2016   12:58 pm

The Colombo High Court today (13) temporary suspended the bail order granted to former Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued following a revised application filed by the Attorney General’s Department.

The AG filed the revised application with the Colombo High Court seeking to annul Nugegoda Magistrate’s bail order.

The application has also sought an order to remand Thilina Gamage over charges against him, Ada Derana reporter said.

Former Colombo Additional Magistrate Gamage, who surrendered to the Court over the alleged possession of an elephant calf without a permit, was granted bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on June 02.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilaitiya had recently issued notice for Magistrate Gamage to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to record a statement with respect to the case as well. Gamage has also been sent on compulsory leave due to an ongoing investigation into the allegation of possession of the baby elephant without a valid permit.
