Hambantota District MP and former President’s son Namal Rajapaksa has been arrested by the Financial Investigation Division a short while ago on Monday (11), an official said.

Namal Rajapaksa was arrested as he arrived at the FCID to give a statement on a financial irregularity, the official added.

He will be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. The FCID and the special Presidential Commission of Inquiry had recorded statements from the MP in previous occasions as well.

However, earlier today, Namal Rajapaksa in a Facebook status update said, “Yahapalanaya” ministers appear to be deciding who to arrest. This is “good governance” at its best, taking the law in to its own hands. We will never stop our struggle for a people’s government.
