Deputy Minister Arundika Fernando says that no one can accuse President Maithripala Sirisena of taking sudden decisions with regard to removing several SLFP stalwarts from organiser posts as those members were given plenty of opportunities to resolve issues through discussion.

He stated that they were given several opportunities and only in the end were decisions reached regarding certain electorates, organisers and discipline.

“Even regarding that there is still discourse within the party. Even we have some criticisms regarding certain organisers appointed,” he told reporters in Colombo.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism Promotion and Christian Affairs stated that this is not an issue because democracy exists within the party now and that the President is a leader who respects the democratic expression of opinions.

He stated that while certain decision need to be taken if the person who was removed has violated party discipline, however the person replacing him should be better. “Such problems exist at certain places but we discuss them.”

But when taken as a whole, the appointment of new organizers has given prominence to the SLFP supporters, Fernando said.
