A tense situation erupted at the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee meeting this morning resulting in two TNA Northern Provincial Councillors, including a Provincial Minister, being wounded during a clash.

Northern Province Minister of and Agriculture and Agrarian Services Ponnudurai Ayngaranesan and Northern Provincial Councillor Kandiah Sarveswaran suffered injuries in the clash, TNA MP S. Sridharan told Ada Derana.

Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran and Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda had participated in the meeting, which was held at the Jaffna District Secretariat.

Chief Minister Vigneswaran had reportedly criticized the central government during the meet while Minister Devananda had criticized the provincial government in return.

Provincial Councillors present at the event had then intervened and pointed out that only matters concerning to the DCC meeting should be discussed, Ada Derana reporter said.

However, a tense situation had arisen after the Northern Provincial Council Opposition Leader brought up the budget of the provincial government resulting in Provincial Councillors and local government members directing accusation at each another.

NPC Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Services, Animal Husbandry, Irrigation and Environment P. Ayngaranesan was injured in the clash that ensued while members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) then left the meeting.
