Under the guise of developing Sigiriya, attempts are being made to build unauthorized structures at the historical site, said UNP Central Provincial Councilor Sanjeewa Kaviratne at a press conference today.

At the media briefing the CPC member added that currently the area around the Sgiriya rock is being excavated in a large scale while 432 craters have been left following the digging. Approximately 300,000 bricks have been transported to the top of the Sigiriya rock he said.

While no information regarding these matters has been revealed yet to the public attempts are being made to construct toilets at the foot of the Sigiriya lion’s paw he claimed. Mr. Kaviratna says that that area was used erect Buddhist statues.
