‘Club Wasantha’ murder: Tattoo studio owner makes confidential statement to court

Dulan Sanjula, the owner of the tattoo studio in Athurugiriya, has made a confidential statement before the Kaduwela Magistrate over the recent shooting and killing of two individuals including Surendra Wasantha Perera alias ‘Club Wasantha’.
Meanwhile, the seven suspects including Dulan Sanjula have been ordered to be remanded further until August 5, 2024.
The suspect, who was arrested in connection with the incident, had requested permission to make a confidential statement to the Kaduwela Magistrate. He made this request when the seven suspects arrested in relation to the incident were produced before the court on July 10.
However, the Kaduwela Magistrate had advised the suspect in question to rethink the decision and make the request again during an upcoming court date.
Furthermore, the magistrate ordered the prison officers to provide additional security to the suspects, since there are accomplices of the criminal figure infamously known as “Loku Patee,” who is suspected to be involved in the incident, detained in the prison.
Police have arrested a 21-year-old female on suspicion of being linked to the killing of ‘Club Wasantha’ at Athurugiriya recently.
Police have arrested eight suspects including the owner of the tattoo studio in Athurugiriya where the shooting incident took place and a 21-year-old female on suspicion of having aided and abetted in the shooting incident so far.
During the investigations carried out thus far, it has been revealed that the owner of the tattoo studio has received an amount of Rs. 1 million over a period of time.
The shocking shooting incident had occurred during the opening ceremony of a tattoo and piercing studio near the Clock Tower in Athurugiriya on July 08 morning.
Six people were rushed to the hospital following the incident. Police later confirmed that 55-year-old businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, popularly known as “Club Wasantha,” and a 38-year-old male had succumbed to their injuries.
Popular singer K. Sujeewa and Wasantha’s wife were reported to be among the four injured persons.
In the course of the investigation, the police discovered the van used by the suspects in an abandoned land in Bulathsinhala area. Additionally, the car used by the suspects to carry out the shooting was found abandoned in Kaduwela.
