Passenger arrested with 16 gold biscuits worth Rs. 440 million at BIA

The officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs have seized 16 gold biscuits, estimated to be worth around Rs. 440 million, smuggled into the country by a passenger at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

A businessman from Galle who had arrived in the country from Dubai had reproetdly attempted to smuggle these gold biscuits this morning (13).

He had concealed the gold biscuits in two parcels, each containing eight pieces, and had placed them in a side bag and pasted it under a luggage trolley, before preparing to exit from the airport.

The Customs officers are conducting further investigations into the incident.
