Landslide early warnings issued for 4 districts

The National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings to multiple areas in four districts, as heavy rainfall continues in parts of the island.

Accordingly, a Level 2 (Amber) warning has been issued for several areas in the Galle, Kalutara, Matara and Ratnapura districts as follows:

Galle – Elpitiya, Neluwa, Yakkalamulla and Nagoda Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSD) and surrounding areas
Kalutara – Ingirya, Horana, Bulathsinhala and Mathugama DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara –Pitabeddara DSD and surrounding areas
Ratnapura- Kuruwita, Ratnapura, Elapatha, Eheliyagoda and Kalawana DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning was issued for the following areas:

Kalutara –Walallawita and Palindanuwara DSDs and surrounding areas
Kegalle- Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Warakapola, Yatiyanthota, Kegalle DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara –Athuraliya DSD and surrounding areas
Ratnapura- Pelmadulla, Nivithigala DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, the NBRO says that this warnings will be in effect until 5.00 a.m. tomorrow (18).
