2024 General Election: 33 independent groups and political parties complete nominations

A total of 33 independent groups and political parties have submitted nominations to contest the 2024 General Election, according to the Election Commission.

The Election Commission says that as of yesterday (08), 17 political parties and 16 independent groups had completed their nominations.

The commission further noted that no nominations have been submitted for the constituencies in the Matale, Galle, Matara, Kurunegala, and Badulla districts yet.

Accepting nominations for the General Election commenced on October 4 and will continue until 12.00 noon on October 11.

Meanwhile, the deadline for accepting postal vote applications for the General Election has been extended to October 10.
