The Department of Posts has issued a clarification regarding the recent release of stamps featuring Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Vijitha Herath.

The Postal Department clarified that the stamps bearing the images of the Prime Minister and Minister Herath are exclusively commemorative gifts and were not part of the official stamp releases for this year’s World Postal Day. The department further explained that no stamps featuring the two dignitaries were issued in connection with the global event.

The statement also emphasized that the Postal Department offers the public the opportunity to create personalized stamps with their preferred images, a service traditionally provided as souvenirs for special occasions.

The national celebration of World Post Day took place yesterday (09) at Temple Trees, attended by Prime Minister Amarasuriya and Minister Herath. During the event, special commemorative stamps were unveiled to mark the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Among them were two stamps featuring the Prime Minister and Minister Herath, which sparked widespread controversy on social media.

The department concluded by reiterating that such commemorative stamps are part of their long-standing tradition of issuing personalized stamps for significant occasions.
