2024 General Election: Accepting nominations ends today

The accepting of nominations for the 2024 General Election is set to conclude at 12 noon today (11).

The Election Commission has allocated time until 1.30 p.m. to file any objections related to the nominations.

A total of 349 independent groups have thus far placed deposits for the upcoming General Election.

Accordingly, 147 political parties and 94 independent groups have placed their nominations as of yesterday.

The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that as per the Election Expenses Regulation Act, details regarding the expenditure limits for candidates will be provided in due course.

Meanwhile, the Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that a special security arrangements have been deployed at all the district secretariats around the island and the Election Commission office in Rajagiriya during the nomination submission period.

DIG Talduwa further stated that instructions have been given to coordinate the General Election through the District DIGs.
