One person killed in shooting in Matara

A person has been shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in the Ruwanwella area in Matara this evening (15), police said.
The victim was travelling in a three-wheeler when he was shot by an individual who had arrived in a car, the police spokesman’s office said.
The deceased has been identified as a 53-year-old resident of Matara.
Police said that preliminary investigations have uncovered that the shooter had arrived in a car and opened fire at the victim who was traveling in a three—wheeler while a pistol had been used to carry out the shooting.
The motive behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained while Matara Police is conducting further investigations to apprehend the suspects involved.
However, it is also reported that the shooting victim had been operating as a “vehicle seizer”.
