The Supreme Court has ordered the National Police Commission to conclude the investigations into then-Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) and current Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Nalaka de Silva pertaining to an alleged plot to assassinate former President Maithripala Sirisena, during the tenure of the ‘Good Governance’ government.

This order was issued by a two-member Supreme Court judge bench consisting of Justices S. Thurairaja and A.H.M.D. Nawaz when a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by DIG Nalaka de Silva was taken up for consideration today (19).

The President’s Counsel, who appeared for the petitioner, pointed out before the court that following the arrest of his client, he was suspended from duties and after that was sent on compulsory leave.

Furthermore, he stated that several investigations are ongoing against his client hindering his ability to secure promotions.

The judge bench which considered all the facts presented, ordered that all investigations into the DIG in question be concluded as soon as possible.

Thus, the National Police Commission was ordered to conclude the relevant investigations against the petitioner within a period of three months.

Later, the petition was ordered to be recalled on February 28, 2025.
