One person killed in shooting at Dikwella

A person has been reported dead following a shooting incident at Walasgala in Dikwella, police said.
The shooting had taken place near the Veterinary Office on Doramure Road in the Walasgala area at around 5.30 a.m. this morning (21).
A person riding a motorcycle had been targeted int he shooting while he had died on the spot.
The victim is a 48-year-old resident of Walasgala who had been employed as a driver.
Police said that no information regarding the shooters or the motive behind the shooting have been uncovered yet.
However, as their is an ongoing court case against the victim for extortion from an individual in the area by using the name of organised criminal gang leader currently hiding overseas, police are investigating whether there is a connection between the shooting and the extortion incident.
Police suspect that a T-56 assault rifle had been used to carry out the shooting.
Dikwella Police is conducting further investigations to arrest the suspects.
