Deputy Ministers to be sworn in today; Ranwala tipped to be Speaker?

The National People’s Power (NPP) has reportedly decided to appoint MP Ashoka Ranwala, a long-time stalwart of the JVP, as the Speaker of the new Parliament.  

The first session of the 10th Parliament is set to commence today (Nov. 21) at 10.00 a.m., with the electing of the new Speaker being the first task in the agenda.  

Meanwhile, it is reported that the Deputy Ministers of the new government are expected to be sworn in at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo this evening (21), following the conclusion of parliamentary proceedings. 

Nearly 27 deputy ministers are expected to be appointed during the swearing-in ceremony.
