LG Election scheduled for early next year - Vijitha Herath

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, has announced that it has been decided to conduct the Local Government Elections at the beginning of next year.

He made this statement while speaking to the media today (23) in Kandy.

“The Supreme Court has issued a ruling to hold the local government elections as soon as possible. However, the necessary provisions were not allocated to conduct these elections this year.” 

“Therefore, the local government elections will take place at the beginning of next year. We are prepared to hold the elections for the Pradeshiya Sabhas and Urban Councils,” he stated.
