Until a suitable occupation to match their skill is found it is the responsibility of the unemployed graduates to find some sort of employment without being a burden to the country or to their parents, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake said.

The Minister pointed out that university students in other countries of the world occupy themselves in any job in order to fund their educational activities and to also fulfill their economical needs until they are suitably employed.

“Sometimes they work as a waiter, cook in a hotel or even as a laborer and they don’t feel ashamed or discomforted about it. On the other hand young graduates in our country don’t do jobs like that simply due to shame” he expressed.

Addressing a meeting at the Higher Education Ministry today (01 November) Mr. Disanayake said, most of the highly educated people in the country today have worked day and night in foreign countries in order to earn money and complete their doctorates and post graduate degrees while others have traveled door to door and delivered news papers.

They who have made sacrifices as such did their best to serve their motherland by going on to accomplish their educational goals, he noted.
