Despite the President’s claims that Sri Lanka only needs the support of India, ties between the two countries have been strained as of late, UNP Provincial Council member and Chief organizer of the Divulapitiya electorate, Kithsiri Manchanayake said.

These comments came in reference to Indian Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi raising concerns over the lack of help being given by the government of Sri Lanka to the Tamil people.

Manchanayake stated at a media conference held in Colombo today (December 23) that he won’t be surprised if Minister Wimal Weerawanse staged a protest outside the Indian High Commission tomorrow following these comments.

Western Provincial Council Opposition Leader, Manju Sri Arangala who was also present at the conference added that Sri Lanka was only the Wonder of Asia in terms of the high cost of living and the low salaries.
