The Department of Railways states that restoration work is still ongoing on the ‘Galu Kumari’ express train that derailed near the Ginthota Railway Station along the coastal railway line.

The train, which was operating from Maradana to Beliatta, derailed last afternoon (16).

As a result, the Railway Department took steps to limit train operations on the coastal line up to the Ambalangoda Railway Station.

The derailment caused significant damage to the railway track, and the department said the repair work is currently underway.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that trains scheduled to operate this morning will start from railway stations located beyond the Ginthota station—specifically from Dodanduwa, Hikkaduwa, Kahawa, and Ambalangoda.

It has also been reported that the train scheduled to operate from Beliatta will now run only up to the Galle Railway Station.

Accordingly, passengers on that train will be transferred to other trains at stations beyond Ginthota via buses, the Railway Department further stated.
