January 2, 2026   05:50 pm

The SJB Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha, Kasun Munasinghe, has been remanded until January 8 by the Matugama Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued by the Magistrate after the accused was produced before the court today (02) in connection with an alleged incident of obstructing the duties of the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha.

According to police, the Secretary had lodged a complaint alleging that the Chairman had obstructed her duties at the Pradeshiya Sabha premises this morning (2).

Following the complaint, police arrested the PS Chairman this afternoon (2) after recording his statement and produced him before the court.

This comes just days after the SJB chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha was released on bail by court on December 31 after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting the same Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred on the morning of December 30, when a heated argument arose between Munasinghe and the Secretary over a Pradeshiya Sabha project.

During the confrontation, the Chairman is alleged to have physically assaulted the Secretary.
