Dharshana Medawatte, an Additional General Manager of the National Water Supply Board (NWSDB), has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The Additional General Manager was taken into custody on corruption charges.

He is accused of arranging the lease of a SUV despite the Chairman of the Water Board already having two official vehicles. It is alleged that this has caused the government a loss of Rs. 12,750,000 while benefiting the Chairman.

Furthermore, the suspect is accused of bypassing procurement procedures to finalize the contract for the supply of the vehicle.

According to investigations by the Bribery Commission, the suspect has conspired to commit corruption and caused financial loss to the government by authorizing the payment.

The NWSDB has confirmed that the case is under investigation by CIABOC, and further legal proceedings are expected to be taken against the Additional General Manager.
