GMOA resumes island-wide strike from today

April 4, 2026   08:20 am

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) announced that it has resumed an island-wide strike from 8 a.m. today (04).

GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe stated that the decision regarding the conclusion of the strike will be made at the GMOA Central Committee meeting scheduled for today.

The GMOA has already staged strike action twice this week, protesting against the alleged politicization of the doctors’ transfer process.

Wijesinghe further stated that the decision to resume strike action was taken in consideration of the authorities’ negative response to its earlier trade union action.
