The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) says that it is paying attention to further reducing the duration of scheduled water cuts in several areas of Colombo.
The Chairman of the Water Board Engineer Chandana Bandara stated that, in view of the current situation, attention is now focused on limiting water cuts to 12 or eight hours.
Due to water supply disruptions caused by prevailing dry weather conditions, the NWSDB had earlier decided to impose water cuts once in three days in Padukka, Homagama, Palanwatta, and Pannipitiya.
Subsequently, the NWSDB announced yesterday (3) that the duration of scheduled water supply interruptions would be reduced from 24 hours to 18 hours, considering the inconvenience caused to consumers.
Efforts are now underway to reduce the period further to 12 or eight hours, Bandara said.
Meanwhile, the NWSDB stated that special measures are being implemented to supply water through bowsers in the event of further disruptions in the Colombo District.
Accordingly, steps have already been taken to bring the water bowsers from other districts, which are under the Water Board, to Colombo, Bandara said.
He further noted that about 20,000 water connections have been affected by the ongoing water supply disruptions.
