University lecturers have decided to resort to a strike based on three demands including a salary hike. It has been decided that lecturers of every university will take part in a token strike this coming Tuesday, affirmed the Federation of University Teachers’ Association.

The government has not provided the promised salary hike for university lecturers, said Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri, President of the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA).

In addition, two issues that have occurred during their profession have also been named as the cause for the strike action.

If authorities fail to complete our demands we will resort to a continues strike, warned Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri.
