A representative of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was present at the Colombo High Court today (June 06) observing the proceedings of the case regarding the ‘White Flag’ statement by Sarath Fonseka.

The IPU representative, Mark Turnal, is scheduled to attend the court proceedings of the ongoing trails against Sarath Fonseka as an observer.

Leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) and former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka had lost his parliamentary seat due to being imprisoned.

UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena during a recent press conference had stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Union has been informed not only regarding Sarath Fonseka, but also about the repeated attacks and harassment faced by opposition parliamentarians.

Jayalath said that the international organization of Parliaments would look into those issues as well.
