The UNP says that even though the government is currently holding discussions with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), there is a high probability that the ongoing talks will fail.
The main reason for this is that the government while discussing a political solution for the North, on the other side is making decisions politically unjust towards the Tamils, Tissa Attanayake stated.
He mentioned the recent proposal to reduce the number of parliamentary seats allocated for the Jaffna District as good example for this.
Govt’s response to C4
Speaking regarding the documentary released by the Sri Lankan government ‘Lies Agreed Upon’ countering the Channel-4 documentary the UNP General Secretary said that the effort of the government has to be appreciated.
However, he added, Channel-4 releasing a second video even after the government had officially rejected the first, “was due to the government’s diplomatic weaknesses”.
Therefore it (government) should act immediately to strengthen diplomatic ties and to avoid problems, Attanayake opinioned at a media briefing today (August 02).
