The Millangoda Raja tusker, known to have the largest tusks in Asia, died this morning (August 3) after suffering from a grave illness for a prolonged period.
The tusker participated in the Kandy Esala Perahera as well as several other upcountry Peraheras during his time.
The tusker was discovered in 1945 in the Meeallawa area in Anamadulla after which the length of his tusks grew to around 8 feet which are recorded as the longest elephant tusks for an Asia elephant.
