Election monitors claim propaganda activities are still being carried out in certain areas, albeit the time period allotted for all Local Government election related propaganda activities has ended.

People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi states that this situation is visible in areas such as Hambantota, Sooriyawewa, Anuradhapura and Galle.

Especially providing of various incentives to the public in view of the upcoming election and house-to-house canvassing are high amongst these activities, he pointed out.

Mr. Hettiarachchi further states that the Commissioner of Elections has been informed in this regard and that the police should actively assist in putting an immediate end to such acts.
