Govt. should withdraw charges against Fonseka – Ranil

December 1, 2011   04:25 pm

This government that claims to protect human rights is fearful of it, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said in parliament today. He added that the government is afraid to speak about Sarath Fonseka.

They are scared to talk about the details surrounding jailed Fonseka and this is the main reason why they opposed the appointment of a Commonwealth Human Rights Commissioner, he added.

He claimed that since Fonseka was an MP, only the speaker could file charges against him in a court of law. Since the way Fonseka was taken to court was illegal I have never represented him in court, Ranil added.

The Government should withdraw the charges filed against Fonseka, he stated.
