Catholic church to boycott govt. functions

The Catholic church here today decided to boycott government functions in protest against a Sri Lankan police raid on a Mother Teresa charity.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the head of the local Catholic church, here said they would stay away from attending state functions in protest.
They have expressed their disappointment over the police raid conducted on a Mother Theresa charity over baby farm accusations.
"Our reaction to this is to stay away from any state functions or state-organised event in the month of December," the Cardinal said.
The Cardinal denied allegations that the charity was a baby farm.
Cardinal Ranjith said the raid on "Prem" children´´s home at Moratuwa, a suburb south of the capital, and the arrest of sister Mary Eliza had been carried out by the police without any evidence and alleged that police was making up a case.
Police said they had acted on a National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) complaint. (PTI)
