Not informing plastic crates rule properly ‘mistake’ of govt.

What more can I say other than those who disappeared in Jaffna will return, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella said today (15) when inquired regarding the government’s stance on the disappearance of Lalith and Kugan of the Movement for People’s Struggle.

Minister Rambukwella, at the media discussion to convey cabinet decisions, said he did not know about any disappearance, apart from hearing in Parliament of an illegal detention.

However the only thing that can be said on those who disappear, is that they are bound to return, he said.

When inquired regarding the possible abduction of Amal Rodrigo, who is said to be the Coordinating Secretary for Minister Mervyn Silva, Rambukwella said he was unaware of it and hinted that the media knew more about missing and abducted persons than him.

Speaking on the plastic crates rule introduced by the Ministry of Co-operatives and Internal Trade for vegetable transportation, the Minister affirmed that the rule will not be subject to change and that it will be properly implemented after one month.

The compulsory use of crates for transporting vegetable and fruit, which was suspended for a period of one month by Minister Johnston Fernando, was done so because farmers and traders should be properly informed about the issue, says Rambukwella.

However it was decided during discussions held yesterday that the plastic crates rule should not affect the transporting of several vegetables such as snake gourd.

“No one can do anything 100% perfectly,” the Minister said and professed that implementing the plastic crates rule without informing properly was a mistake on the part of the government.
