Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe is to nominate Ravi Karunanayake as Deputy Leader and Joseph Michael Perera as Assistant Leader on the United National Party (UNP), sources within the opposition party said.

The nominations are to be made during the UNP Working Committee meeting scheduled for today.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake yesterday stated that Working Committee will consider proposals for appointing new party officials for the year 2012  when it meets today (Dec. 18).

The preliminary nominations for the posts of Leader, Deputy Leader, Chairman and National Organizer will be presented at the meeting, Attanayake had said.

He added that if there is any competition for any of the posts, another date will be decided upon to hold a secret ballot to determine who would take up the post.
