A foreign national was killed and his wife hospitalized due to a confrontation at a resort in Tangalle today morning.

A fight had broken out during musical show held at the resort last night where the foreign couple had been attack by a group. It is said that a shooting had also taken place.

When inquired by Ada Derana, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said it is still uncertain whether the individual was killed from a gunshot wound or from the assault.

However, information has been revealed that a Local Government politician in the Tangalle area is involved in the incident.

It is said that the politician and several others of his group had verbally abused and harassed the wife of the foreign national during last night’s musical show. An argument had taken place after the foreigner    expressed his resentment to this which resulted in a brawl.

The group including the Local Government politician had attacked the foreign couple while a firearm was also produced and fired by one of them. The incident is reported to have taken place at around 3am today (Dec. 25).

The deceased’s wife has been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital and is being treated for injuries sustained from the incident, the police spokesman said.
