The UNP have organized a protest against the recent fuel hike in Colombo today (February 17) evening while UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake stated that all the opposition parties are welcome to join the protest.

He said that several parties have already voiced their support for the protest while the JVP has stated that it will not join any programme organized by the UNP as the JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva claimed that his party was the only one representing the people.

The estate workers meanwhile will stage a one-day token strike today against the fuel hike, the Lanka National Estate Workers Association stated adding that the hike has affected poor people adversely.
