
Protest over arrest of suspect in Banduragoda

A protest broke out last night (May 8) on the Divulapitiya-Meerigama road in the Banduragoda area over the arrest of a suspect who was accused of injuring a man with a sharp object while attempting to rape his wife, police stated.
The group that began the protest blockaded the Divulapitiya-Meerigama road by cutting a tree and placing it across the road and burning tires during the late hours of last night, Gampaha Division SP K.D. Kumsaru stated.
The protest carried on beyond midnight while police eventually dispersed the unruly crowd.
Meanwhile, the suspect will be presented before the court today (May 9), SP Kumsaru stated.
