Two persons including a female were killed when a group of individuals on motorbikes had opened fire at a JVP rally today (15) evening at Katuwana in Hambantota, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said.

One person who was injured from the shooting incident has been hospitalized, he added.

When inquired by Ada Derana, JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake claimed “a group of thugs of the government” had forcefully entered premises of the rally, participated by a JVP Provincial Councilor, and opened fire without warning.
