A suspect has been arrested over the raping of an underage girl in the Vakaneri area in the Valaichchenai Police Division. Police said the crime was uncovered after the victim in question had given birth at the Batticaloa Hospital on June 01.

It is said that the 15-year-old girl was living with her older sister, who had left the country for foreign employment around 2 years ago. The girl had continued to live at the house, along with her mother and her sister’s husband.
 
She was first raped by her brother-in-law in 2011 and after that he had repeatedly committed the crime, resulting in the underage pregnancy, police said.

The arrested suspect is to be produced at the Valaichchenai Magistrate’s Court today while the Valaichchenai Police is conducting investigations.
