University non-academic staff, who are currently engaged in a strike action, are scheduled to reach an agreement with the University Grants Commission (UGC) today.

Co-President, University Trade Union Joint Committee (UTUJC) R. M. Chandrapala, stated that they will consider ending the strike only if the agreement is signed today, with the Labour Commissioner’s intervention.

All university trade union leaders have reached a decision to proceed according to an agreement, he told Ada Derana, adding that point included in the previously signed agreement should be included in this agreement.

Educational and other activities in all universities across the island have reportedly come to a halt due to the strike launched by non-academic staff on June 06, demanding the removal of salary discrepancies.
