
Person arrested at BIA with over Rs.21 mil in foreign currency

A businessman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (July 19) by Customs officials while attempting to board a flight bound for Sharjah with more than Rs. 21 million worth of foreign currency.
The authorities discovered the stock of currency including US Dollars, Euros and Kuwait Dinars, while inspecting the passenger’s bag before he was to board the G9506 aircraft.
The inspection was conducted by Deputy Customs Chief Nishantha Jayasinghe while further investigations will be conducted by Customs Director N. K. Pradeep.
