
Wattegama Mayor surrenders to police

The Mayor of Wattegama, who had been named as a suspect in an assault case, handed himself over to police today and was subsequently taken into custody, police said.
Wattegama Police had launched an investigation into the alleged assault on a fruit vender on July 29 at the Wattegama town while information regarding the incident were reported to the Teldeniya Court.
The Mayor of Wattegama who had been named as a suspect in the assault incident handed himself over to the Wattegama Police today and was subsequently taken into custody.
He is to be produced before the Teldeniya magistrate’s Court later today.
