Norochcholai power plant breaks down again

August 8, 2012   12:43 pm

The Norochcholai coal power plant has broken down again due to a tripping of a transmission line from Norochcholai to Veyangoda cutting off 300MW to the national grid, the Ministry of Power and Energy stated.

The Lakvijaya power plant has automatically been shut down while Engineers are currently working toward restoring the power plant.

The Lakvijaya power plant recently broke down following a 5-inch tear in one of the thousands of tubes in the boiler economizer which resulted in a similar loss to the national grid causing island wide power cuts.
