50% employees report to work, acts of sabotage reported - CEB

Over 50 per cent of field and office employees of the Ceylon Electrify Board (CEB) had reported to work at main offices and other regional offices this morning, despite strike the action launched by trade unions, the CEB General Manager says.

This is a good attendance compared to yesterday, he said.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Power and Energy stated that certain employees had reported to work despite being threatened and that the army has been assigned to look into and take action regarding such threats.

Meanwhile acts of sabotage have been reported from certain areas, and the public is requested to inform of such incident via police emergency hotline – 119, it said.

CEB engineers say that protestors had attempted to disrupt transformers at certain areas by throwing bicycle chains and through various other means, the release added.
