National Museum robbery: Two female suspects arrested

Three persons including two females, suspected to be involved in the National Museum artifact robbery, have been arrested in Piliyandala, Police said today.

The two females were traveling in a three-wheeler when they were arrested in Piliyandala last night, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said. The driver of the three-wheeler was also taken into custody.

A part of a sword and several rings, said to have been stolen from the National Museum, were found in the possession of the suspects and taken into police custody, he said.

The Colombo National Museum was broken into on March 16 and several items of historical value including a sword, gold coins and rings were stolen.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) are conducting separate investigations into the incident.
