Sep 3 declared national day of mourning

September 03 has been announced as a national day of mourning due to the funeral of Most Venerable Weweldeniye Medhalankara Thero, Mahanayaka of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya. Therefore liquor shops will be closed on that day.

Sri Lanka’s oldest living Maha Nayaka Thera and 12th Maha Nayaka Thera of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya - the Most Venerable Veveldeniye Medhalankara Thero passed away on Wednesday evening. 

He was 103 years old at the time of his death.
