Doctors at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital are staging a token strike from 8am to 4pm today in protest of an assault on a doctor by a political party group, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said.

The doctor who was assaulted last night while arriving to work has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital for treatment, the GMOA spokesman Dr. Navin de Soysa said.

He added that a complaint has been lodged with the Anuradhapura Police regarding the incident.

If the police fail to apprehend the responsible individuals, a strike action will be launched in all hospitals in the North Central Province on Monday (03).
